A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45
I’ve been thinking on this scripture today, letting it dwell in my mind. At least as much as I could – I had a very busy day at work, therefore not much time was spent in my own thoughts. The last part is really the part that kept going through my mind –of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh-
This poem (Or is it just a saying? I’m not sure) goes along with it.
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions for they become habits.
Watch your habits for they become your character.
Watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
If I find myself having days where I can’t seem to keep things from slipping out of my mouth – I have to examine what I’m holding onto in my heart. What thoughts am I giving my attention to and are they worth it? Am I upset that customers aren’t filling out forms correctly (or at all)? It’s here that I have to reason with myself that it just doesn’t really matter. The thoughts I give my attention to will become abundance in my heart and will flow out of my mouth. And also for me, they will become a look on my face. I’ve been told that I can give dirty looks and very often I do not realize that my thoughts have translated onto my face. I depend on God for a lot of things, but it is up to me the thoughts I allow to dwell in my heart. Only me.
…of the abundance of the heart my mouth speaketh…
